For political and other reasons, Yorubas are variously listed under headings like "blacks", "mixed race", "colored", "mulattos", "negroes", Africans", even "Hispanics" or "others".  In the few countries where Yorubas are distinctly listed at all, they are enumerated only as potential voters or some other officially requested actions. Predictable undercounts often result because many Yorubas do not always volunteer to be identified as such, in what they may perceive as relatively hostile environments. Yorubas in today's world are professing Christians, Muslims or Yoruba Traditional Religion adherents. Sometimes different members of the same extended family profess different ones of these three religions, usually with a high degree of mutual tolerance and respect.
